Old School Love

What happened to the kind of love
that starts with a glance across the room
a conversation on a couch
between two strangers
who are drawn to each other
hoping to become lovers…

What happened to the kind of love
that starts with a phone call
placed for no other purpose
than to hear the one voice
that makes your heart
skip a beat…
wouldn’t that be neat?

What happened to the kind of love
that starts when it’s your best friend you’ve found
only better
someone who loves you with strength as strong as the ground
and comfort as cozy as your favorite sweater…

What happened to the kind of love
between two people who stay together
in sickness and health
foreclosure and wealth
not because of the kids
but because they can’t imagine
life without each other…

What happened to the kind of love
that makes the sun shine brighter
the heart feel lighter…
What happened to old school love?

  1. Nicole I really like this poem! It is romantic on a very *deep* level! (“…but because they can’t imagine life without each other…” – Wow!!)

I hope to see more of your poetry when you are inspired to create it and share it with us!

  2. Dear Steve,

Thank you for your comments on Old School Love and my blog. I am thankful to you for getting me started on my poetry writing journey after you read Anticipation and asked why I wasn’t writing anymore. I hope we can collaborate together – poetry and sax!!

    • That sounds Great!! I look forward to it! And does this Blog mean that maybe you will grace us with some new work? (translation : you are writing again! : ) I hope so!! 🙂

  3. I look forward to it, too!! I can grace your audience with my new articles…LOL! I haven’t written any poems lately but, for you, I will work on it. We can perform Old School Love together – what do you think?
